In recent years new models of HR delivery have meant that the line manager is being increasingly asked to do things that were once the preserve of the ‘Personnel Manager'. The line manager must understand his or her new role as a ‘manager of people' and understand the basics of employment law but also appreciate when he or she does need to ask for HR's help.

This course will show you how to deal effectively with discipline, grievance and other people issues while keeping employees engaged and on board and how to understand what your HR Manager is talking about!

Outcomes - you will:

  • Understand the role of HR in the organisation and your role as a people manager
  • Understand what HR processes you can manage yourself and where you should seek HR's help
  • Understand the basics of employment legislation

HR for Line Managers is recommended for managers whose main specialism is not in HR and development, but who have responsibility for the management of people.

Programme:

  • What does HR do?

  • The role of the line manager in working with, and as, HR

  • When to consult HR

  • The employee life-cycle and the legal framework

  • Recruitment and selection

  • Managing employee performance and discipline

  • Learning and talent development

  • Employee engagement

  • Introduction to Employment Law
