Working with the 'movers and shakes' in your community is imperative if you really want to 'engage your community'.
This course will explore the relationship between local authorities, councillors and local activists.
On this course you will look at some of the underlying issues and practical steps that can be taken to build positive relationships. Some of the broader issues relating to community engagement and empowerment will also be used to create a context for this work.
The facilitator is an expert practitioner who has worked in, and for, a wide range of communities and statutory agencies. His experience includes working for local urban and rural authorities at neighbourhood and authority levels, he is a community activist and a tutor for the Community Leadership module of the IDEA Leadership Academy. If you participate in this event, then please be prepared to share your experience, problems and opinions.
You will be presented with some of the current thinking, key ideas and questions to be answered. Attendees should be willing to match their circumstances with other participants to find practical solutions that can be applied locally.
