The frontline, non-executive or backbench councillors are the 'on the ground' representatives of the democratic process in any area. Their role is complex, wide-ranging and often poorly defined.
This course will explore these roles and will, with participants' active engagement, build an understanding of the potential of the role and of the possible obstacles and bear traps that await the unwary.
This course will explore the role of frontline councillors in its widest term and will draw on councillors' own experience to highlight ways of enhancing that role. Obstacles and barriers will be identified throughout the course and ways of overcoming them.
