Balancing your councillor role, personal life, meeting your constituents and handling case work is difficult to say the least.

By attending this course councillors will establish a meaningful balance between their councillor role and own life by examining successful ways to engage face to face with constituents and how to effectively handle casework.

Impact/Outcomes

By the end of the session participants will:

  • Identify a range of ways in which to communicate effectively with residents and local groups including hard to reach groups
  • Consider possible problems and pitfalls
  • Identify strategies to overcome problems and pitfalls
  • Identify and use appropriate support mechanisms
  • Identify a number of strategies for effectively managing their casework
  • Provide effective response to their casework
  • Be able to deal safely with difficult situations and people
