Influencing & Partnership Skills

  • Category: Councillor Development and Governance
  • Date: No current presentations
  • Times: Half day

Partnership working has become a central role for councils and has considerable implications for councillors.  As well as their community leadership role they need to develop their influencing and negotiation skills when working in partnership with others.

This course will provide councillors with the skills to identify different types and levels of partnerships to effectively influence strategies in partnership working.  It will explore practical approaches such as barriers and pitfalls and the importance of ‘win-win' outcomes, effective influencing and identifying opportunities of integrating influencing and partnership working skills and techniques into their community leadership role and how councils can prepare themselves before entering into partnerships.

It will also focus on interpersonal skills required in such negotiations such as rapport building, listening and questioning, summarising and body language to help councillors develop a positive influencing style and personal planning techniques to improve outcomes.

 Who should attend: Councillors.
