Event details: Chairs of overview and scrutiny committees will be given the opportunity to gain a broader understanding of their role and to examine processes and systems to help them be effective in that role.
Further details: On this course you will look at the components of a ‘good' and ‘bad' meeting and identify and demonstrate core chairing skills including PEACE. You will examine a number of strategies towards running effective scrutiny processes including developing productive relationships with the executive. You will learn how to successfully chair a variety of different meeting types including public meetings and in-depth Scrutiny Commissions and will identify strategies to deal with difficult participants and situations.
Who should attend: Councillors. This course will also be suitable for councillors new to chairing panels.
