Event details: The development of strategic HR capacity in local authorities is central to delivering transformational change and the need to make an investment in the HR function is articulated in the Pay & Workforce Strategy at a national and regional level. There is also recognition that the role of HR is experiencing enormous change with CIPD research suggesting that in ‘Managing and Developing HR Careers' HR need to nurture and retain talent.
Further details: The aim of the programme would be to provide our future leaders of HR with an intensive development opportunity that will challenge current thinking and practice and equip them to present themselves and the HR function as integral to the authority achieving its objectives. The long term outcome will be the development of a talent pool of people ready to operate at a strategic level across the region. This pool will be ready to face the challenges which are being driven nationally and locally and therefore it is hoped that the programme will:
A key aspiration for the programme is that it will be sufficiently different from other development opportunities generally offered to HR practitioners in that it will produce a level of personal insight which will lead to change. The programme is designed with five full day workshops facilitated by Organisation Development Services Ltd (ODS) and five half day problem solving surgeries in between the workshops.
Who should attend: Participants will need to have an interest and desire to learn with others and from others, as there will be an emphasis on the cohort learning from each others' experiences. A focus of the programme will be to support participants in creating and becoming effective within the business partner model, and this means that there will be some emphasis on self-reflection and considering own behaviours and attitudes in achieving effective performance. Participants therefore need to be open to learning about self, as well as the organisational and business context. The programme is aimed at senior experienced practitioners who have the potential to be heads of HR function in 2 to 4 years. It is envisaged that they would already have well developed HR skills and would wish to develop and strengthen their skills to increase their own strategic capacity.
Cost: £1,350 + VAT for 5 full days and 5 half days for members of NWEO / £1,755 + VAT for non-members of NWEO
