The current climate is so challenging that Councillors are likely to need more support and reassurance than ever. Officer advice that may seem obvious needs to address Councillors' concerns that may be less obvious. This course will help you appreciate the way Councillors see and think about issues. The result is that you will be more influential, enhance your reputation for sound judgement and get on with the Council's business more effectively and efficiently.

 Impact/Outcomes

Demonstrate and integrate understanding of the political process and the authority context within which s/he has to work;

Interpret the political perspectives into everyday work activities;

Recognise that some decisions are politically sensitive and be able to respond appropriately;

Work sensitively with colleagues and councillors identifying the need to adapt style and content of communication appropriately;

Approach scrutiny with political sensitivity;

Communicate difficult messages with sensitivity.
