Event details: To equip officers with an awareness and understanding of issues related to the health of Gypsy Roma Traveller communities. To give delegates an understanding of the legislative and professional working processes in relation to this community. To provide a fun, relaxed environment where delegates are encouraged to ask questions and express themselves freely.

Further details: At the end of the session the delegates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural issues surrounding Gypsy Roma Travellers. 
  2. Explain the difficulties encountered by Gypsy Roma Traveller communities in accessing health services. 
  3. Demonstrate what Police powers may be called upon in relation to Gypsy Traveller encampment issues. And how health professionals may be called upon by advocates. 
  4. Understand the benefits of a community informed partnership approach to working with Gypsy Roma Travellers.
  5. To help officers gain more confidence in working with and promoting health improvement with the Traveller communities.

Who should attend: Those responsible or who has an interest in health awareness of the group e.g. councillors, officers from local authorities/PCTs.
