Charter Celebration Event 2009
2009 was the ninth year of the Charter Awards and 150 guests from 33 regional and national organisations gathered at the Lowry, Salford Quays, to acknowledge the achievements of the 13 authorities being awarded.
On the day Phil Woolas MP, Minister for the North West, sent the following address:
I'm delighted that all 41 local authorities in the North West have signed up to the Member Development Charter. It demonstrates a dedication to meeting the needs of your communities that should be at the heart of every local authority and public body. Congratulations to everyone who is being awarded the Charter today. I hope that the event is a great success.
Lancashire Police Authority was particularly pleased as they took away the MJ Prize, which is presented to one of the Level 1 authorities for their innovative approach to Member development.
The event was a most enjoyable interlude in the gloom of cuts facing all councils and a celebration of the commitment, versatility and enjoyment that most Officers and Councillors still get from working in local government.
