We are fully committed to encouraging innovation for councillors through the NW Councillors' Innovation and Learning Fund. This successful programme has gone from strength to strength, largely due to the unique opportunity to access funding to support innovation.
We are thrilled with the 12 excellent and unique innovation projects we have been able to support using funding from NWIEP in Year 2. To showcase and share the innovative activity we have created an interactive learning module. To access the module, please click here. Here are some personal quotes from two councillors involved in the programme last year:
'I would say that the small grant was a seed fund that has vastly improved the experience and efficiency of Salford's elected members. It was a launching pad to obtaining charter status. It rekindled members interest in training not just in I.T but policy and members' best practice.'
Councillor John Mullen, Salford City Council
'I embarked on what seemed like (to me) a relatively simple project - to make a training video/DVD, for newly elected councillors. The work invovled was massive, as was my learning curve. I found it a hugely enriching process made more enjoyable by the selfless (and unpaid) contributions of council officers, national bodies, and my fellow councillors of all political persuasions. It is an undertaking I can thoroughly recommend to other elected colleagues.'
Councillor Roger Dennison, Lancaster City Council
