The Big Society is about a huge culture change, where people in their everyday lives, in their homes, in their neighbourhoods need to make big decisions!
North West Employers is working with Neighbourhoods NW who has created an Introduction to Participatory Budgeting in partnership with the Participatory Budgeting Unit, for people working and living in neighbourhoods who, in line with David Cameron's vision, want to create a Big Society for themselves.
Introduction to Participatory Budgeting is designed to improve the way in which people in neighbourhoods work together and engage with each other. This programme introduces the concept of Participatory Budgeting which directly involves local people in making decisions on the spending and priorities for a defined public budget. By the end of the day delegates will be able to:
1. Recognise ways to implement participatory budgeting
2. Gain an understanding of funding within local government or central government and what it can be used for
3. Understand the values and principles of Participatory Budgeting
4. Define the benefits of Participatory Budgeting
5. Give examples of good practice for successful Participatory Budgeting
