MIEP Total Place Conference- collaboration, early intervention and citizen focus

On 13 July, North West Employers were commissioned to organise, manage and run a conference on Total Place for Merseyside Improvement and Efficiency Partnership.

Total place is a new initiative that looks at how a ‘whole area' approach to public services can lead to better services at less cost. It seeks to identify and avoid overlap and duplication between organisations - delivering a step change in both service improvement and efficiency at the local level, as well as across Whitehall.

The day focussed on the changing roles of councillors and how Total Place will enable them to deliver better service delivery for less and included regional and national perspectives.

North West Employers lined up an impressive line up of speakers including:

Elizabeth Whatmore, Deputy Director for Improving Place Performance Division - Department of Communities and Local Government - who gave a frank and detailed explanation on the national perspective and implications

Ian Bottrill, National Development Director of ContinYou Cymru, the Welsh arm of ContinYou, and North West Employers' Associate and Lynne Wardle, Director, Taylor Haig - led the day and facilitated discussion and group work and shared the ‘good' examples and ‘stark' findings from the pilots

Nigel Keohane, Head of Research, New Local Government Network - explained the finding from the recent NLGN report ‘Greater Than The Sum Of Its Parts'

Ben Kingsmill, Managing Director, thinkpublic - shared his experience and examples of ‘what a difference design makes'
