It is difficult to underestimate the importance of education and training when it comes to nurturing respect for equality and human rights

The Equality and Diversity Award presentation was made by Angus Cleary from the Equality and Human Rights Commission.  In his opening address, Mr Cleary drew attention to a number of influential reports that have recently been drafted by the EHRC, including one on disability harassment, which, as he noted, is a much more widespread problem than is generally recognised. Awards on the day were given to:

• Bury Council
• Lancashire County Council
• Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council
• Wirral Council
• Cumbrian local authorities (joint submission)
