Adult Social Care (InLAWS)

We have supported a network for lead officers on workforce planning during the last two years alongside Skills for Care, the sector skills council. The main focus during 2009/10 has been the Integrated Local Area Workforce Strategies (InLAWS) project.

The InLAWS project aims to improve the planning of the whole adult social care workforce across public, private and community sectors and to integrate these plans with commissioning and financial planning.

The support and activity has been organised through two co-ordinated groups:

InLAWS Action Team Development Group

Key role:

  • Become the North West ‘expert' group and resource for the InLAWS methodology
  • Review current workforce strategy against InLAWS
  • Identify and undertake actions to refresh the strategy so that it better incorporates InLAWS, involving liaison with key stakeholders
  • Identify barriers, priorities and actions in available resources to further develop InLAWS from 2010-11 and beyond

InLAWS Action Team Network Group

The existing North West network for lead officers on workforce planning expanded its activity to bring in other relevant disciplines and partners, such as strategic service planners and commissioners, PCTs, private, voluntary and community providers.

Key role:

  • To review priority topics
  • Share development effort
  • Resolve barriers to integrated workforce planning
  • Provide overall review of the programme's impact
