Workforce Planning

A workforce plan aims to ensure that your organisation has the right number of people in the right places with the right skills and competencies at the right time to deliver the services planned.

We have developed a general framework that can be used within your organisation and with partners to review if all of the key elements of an effective workforce plan are in place.

The framework is flexible enough to work alongside planning approaches for specific services such as children's, adult social care and joint working arrangements with health partners. The key steps in the framework may be used individually to supplement existing approaches or followed in sequence as a full project plan:

  • Identification of future needs
  • Assessment of current position
  • Planning for action
  • Implementation
  • Review and evaluation

The framework is available as an online self assessment tool.
